Next day,I went to the Admiral Benbow and said Ray Bangoodbye to my mother .I was sad to leave ,but when Redruth and I began our journey to Bristol ,my thoughts turned to the voyage and the search for treasure.

. u4 u+ k0 U( n% t( rMr Trelawney was waiting for us at an inn, near the sea.‘Here you are!’he cried when we arrived.‘The doctor came from London last night ,so now the ship's company is complete. We sail tomorrow!’
7 F8 L; C+ s- W. L" H' w, b$ r$ R$ @7 w
After I had finished breakfast ,the squire gave me a note to take to Long John Silver at the Spyglass Inn., ?" `+ R0 H- ~8 V; ~2 E

& w) G" @9 v# l/ A) m$ N* u  t4 y. H& K) B: r) W8 N. y
$ y7 l) T9 ~4 g2 t
It was a bright little place where the customers were mostly seamen. As I entered ,a man came out of a side room and I knew immediately he must be Long John. His left leg was cut off above the knee and he walked with a crutch under his left shoulder .He was tall and strong with a big ,smiling face.

& R9 S9 A  \6 K
' A# D& P8 t9 h" X( _& l( F: K- w4 K9 V
Now ,when I read about Long John in Squire Trelawney's letter, I had been afraid Ray Banhe might be the one-legged seamanthat old Bill had talked about .But one look at the man in front of me was enough. I knew old Bill, and Black Dog, and the blind man Pew .I thought I knew what a pirate looked like-a very different person from this clean and smiling man.4 f, Y0 N: ~* l  \& A

* S0 M" L* q. w+ ]$ |6 s$ D: S‘Mr Silver ,sir?’I asked, holding out the note.
/ B: o( B% Q$ ^! d0 v. g0 h& R
) S) c) v" y# N* I0 z3 Y1 N‘Yes ,my boy,’he said.‘That's my name .And who are you?’And then he saw the squire's letter and looked surprised.‘Oh!’he said loudly. ‘I see you're our new cabin-boy. I'm pleased to meet you.’0 P$ s1 x% V) t2 q

Just then, a customer got up suddenly and hurried to the door. I recognized him as the man with only three fingers on his left hand—the one who had come to the Admiral Benbow!; N3 m7 @8 H% e+ O9 w& C

3 Z/ |9 s& `2 v‘Stop him!’I shouted.‘It's Black Dog!’9 L) Y) }# l1 z$ b
$ r* F% u) b! J+ w

/ p0 H7 ?$ @3 |. {‘ I don't care who he is,’said Silver.‘He hasn't paid for his drinks. Run and catch him, Harry!’
  G! ?( A# b3 x: `0 u
1 O- l% p5 u. a9 P3 e( u* W, xA man jumped up and ran after Black Dog.
" f2 S/ `0 ]( p9 X" ~3 _# N; D
, y; l9 C9 `" M" E( i0 s4 O8 {‘What was his name?’asked Silver#x.‘Black what?’% i6 X# D$ }. t! S+ S* L; F9 Z
5 W& Y( E5 U3 @
‘Dog, sir,’I said.‘Hasn't Mr Trelawney told you about the pirates? He was one of them.’

* i4 {' }  B" u( y( D6 ^/ p  y0 l5 H2 T: e( K! Y

& J! d) y/ L( V* P6 ~8 X9 Q% s‘A pirate! I didn't know that,’said Silver.‘I've seen him before, when he came with a blind man.’6 P" M, i( R% q! f

% A' c, d# ]0 Z0 ^' }‘That was blind Pew, another pirate,’I said.  V, Z8 [7 K8 m9 ~" p/ M6 C

  D" V# o) b2 [‘That was his name!’ said Silver.9 @( j2 Y$ b; O/ \% C8 A

) i% p: E' @' [+ g% Z8 }. uI watched the sea cook carefully .But when the man Harry came back without the pirate, Silver seemed angry and I be-lieved he was.
* B; ~) i- i0 \: i0 x, c+ i7 Y; Y, ^- e5 b' s8 |
‘I'll come with you to tell Mr Trelawney what's happened,Energy saving lamps,’he saidRay Ban. This is a serious matter.’! w8 h6 U- C' x+ t4 E$ G

8 s) K0 M/ A! E1 v4 \2 b2 q

! E( p0 R$ y2 t( G* dAs we walked back, Silver told me many interesting things about the ships that we passed. I began to think he was going to be a good companion to have when we were at sea.

$ l& A& ^! e: w0 w: V7 j/ f$ r5 Y' c

. \- X: _. ]7 t6 W" J; JWhen we got to the inn, the squire and Dr Livesey were there .Long John told them about Black Dog, saying,‘That was how it was, wasn't it, Hawkins?’And I had to agree. We were all sorry about Black Dog getting away, but there was nothing we could do.( A" g4 r0 `. r! p  C

! @0 K0 d$ o$ g% K8 R6 u7 G$ C
8 C4 K8 O8 I5 Y% h
* P7 X/ s0 u  k‘All the crew must be on board by four o’clock this after- noon, Trelawney told Long John.
" W& h" Y8 R+ H/ z0 q8 c) u
) R% {# ~5 d1 e8 c6 f‘Right ,sir!’said the sea cook, and he left us to return to his inn.
  |2 s) v( G9 V6 D8 e5 e: Z; U8 }  R1 B9 D
‘Trelawney,’said Dr Livesey,‘I don't always think you find #xthe best men, but I'll say this: John Silver seems a good man .Now, let's go and see the ship!’
