The Edmonton Youth Orchestra was founded in 1952 when 12 music students met at a high school in downtown Edmonton to talk about forming a music group. Today, the EYO Association is an integral part of Edmonton’s cultural life. The Edmonton Youth Orchestra Association supports two orchestras: the Senior Orchestra (ages 14 to 24), and the Intermediate Orchestra (ages 11 to 20). Opportunities are provided for young musicians to develop their orchestral skills, to increase their knowledge and appreciation of music, and to enrich the cultural life of the community through concerts and benefit performances. The EYO program is widely regarded as one of the finest in Canada. It is funded through ticket sales, membership fees, performance fees, fund-raising events, government grants and donations from both individuals and the corporate sector.
