5 y8 \! ^& r* U; A; pmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
# b+ a; q, |' M; ^! Y, Lin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D8009 Z. J% z: g5 e5 M9 Q
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
3 h8 Y5 Z7 E& @4 d, L& M- Q' m1 Swithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography5 r7 z7 ?# b5 s" {# Y* R7 g! ]) R# f! |
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
# v8 X1 ^ {. B6 t5 O9 Qimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was7 B! ], ]6 x0 k/ a' A: \4 _/ t
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
2 E W, y. B5 }5 U& M( gconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown; S: m% k; }! ]' h1 B7 k/ Y
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised, e& A1 e+ x8 J6 {
thanks to the D800.
: l/ [8 J; N: u- d& O' `# o. KWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,- D. ` `: R3 l: B9 n
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
x6 o$ r7 L* ~6 ]0 E* y% X6 brange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces$ o) U# z( u( H+ `
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
1 x3 s. v# W; jD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as1 z& x* G2 H. c, y2 M( ]% x8 L0 `
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.1 |8 ^6 \3 T- t/ \. w( M5 C
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
! x7 b' T# ? j# W( ]has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is, ~0 U* ]& p N& X/ H+ t s5 U
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
5 z* f; v. w1 J: z( G t1 U! Oalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New$ p6 P* `9 o2 r
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features* _5 v7 Z0 f, m h
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
( |, j& o6 ]$ l$ i8 tprints and video.
9 ~3 J1 y6 _* e" T% l6 X) Y( y8 gTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is9 [; I5 u# A4 }) l
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models8 c2 C5 z' X' |
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using9 J& _, W) _. R9 G- U# B2 d
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
, a& ] ^6 P2 wsight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
/ |6 t3 @% O2 C: nlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of/ r, s. k/ L; D' w
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
! i4 v1 G' b+ s3 f' g2 mam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as& D) Z3 Y6 y, M2 k
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
) T3 L! @$ P* @- Vphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add) a) S. K4 [: G: g3 C8 x( F8 `
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
. |: m* S; F4 E# MD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
7 m) x$ }+ G& B; E$ l# m) u& Ois that now I will think differently about the images I make.
' i4 s; E7 b0 y. a3 j2 P% l5 q* S9 `As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,, W$ Q3 z- p' Z4 @1 q
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal2 g u- h9 r1 A2 F; f
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for
8 q' l4 b4 E/ wthe high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital
6 S# T# m$ |4 r$ ycamera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till; ~* [ g4 N) } |4 S5 @ x, d
now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions- H3 |# y( _! z7 y/ [. x2 f: b
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior
) O% \4 w9 j- fquality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for+ O: d! n4 }4 q- o& g
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
% U7 c7 {2 [8 Y0 g) o7 L' W Lperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly& t( O6 I& ~& S& S+ u3 O
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility5 h: w- `; p) A7 R# A* D6 `( w
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional2 {4 p9 _9 `3 b8 x& [$ h* A/ G
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality' E: Y' _, M* j& r
