Thanks to the blooming economy in Alberta, we have a better chance to get higher salary and better jobs. Since late last year, some agents have been trying to advise my friends and myself to switch to some other jobs. The salary they provide is really very attractive, as a result, for the last several months, we kept losing some people every month. This month, Mr. L, my best friend, left the company. I feel very sad about that. At his last day, we walked around the building, just like at my first day in the company. I felt tears in my eyes.

Furthermore, the company is a big and growing one. I like the company culture here. For a long term professional development, I believe it is much better to stay in such a company. So the only thing left is just the salary. To be honest, I don't like the way that gets an offer and then bargain with the company. I believe I deserve a better salary, especially in today’s market. Neither my friends nor me have the experience to discuss salary with the company without another offer, they don't think it is a good idea. However, I want to try, I like the way “先礼后兵”, but that is mainly because of the labor shortage market, if now it is very hard to get a job, I won’t take the risk.6 s9 R+ k) b6 {

At last I was quite happy with the letter and sent it to our HR at a right time, leaving some time for her to consider it. Today she asked me to go out for a coffee, we had a very good talk. Both the scenario we prepared are very reasonable so we have a perfect match. I got a pretty higher salary, she got to know something about the employee and made sure I would stay in the company. Both of us are very happy. - G; }; [' v- T

To be honest, it is my first time to ask for a higher salary when it is not the performance review time. It is something like “摸着石头过河”. I believe I did a good job, but for sure it might be better. I am writing this to 抛砖引玉, if anyone has some idea about how to discuss the salary with the company, please don't hesitate to speak out. I believe it will benefit most of the people. After all, it is a precious time now to get a promotion or higher salary. 8 E' U; s& Q/ _2 z( W# Y3 I! M
