Living in Fort Mcmurray
Rental fee is a little bit higher than 2 years ago depending on which area you will live. Normally 2 bedroom apartment will be $2400 to $3000. But the basic income of one family increased more than 10% in the last 2 years ( The income of one family is more than $100K 2 years ago). So I would say it is the same level as 2 years ago.

There are lots of Chinese food you can buy in Superstore, Extra Food, but not many seafood and good rice either. There is a Wal-mart, Canadian Tire, Rona, Bricks store and..... I would say it is very convient for people to buy almost everything with a very cheap price ( comparing to your income) in this small city.

There is few chinese resturants, but none of them is good, you should better buy a cooking book and make your own. But local Canadian resturants are better, most of them has good food and the price is decent as well. Like Fish place.

2 }6 J/ m$ [9 P% L8 S" |One thing may cost you lots of money, is to repair a car or to do some renovation for your old house. Because the labor cost is much more expensive than in Edmonton, probably twice more, besides, it takes lot of time, you need patience to wait for the people to show up or never show up.....So if you are handy, better do it yourself..

Traffic is worse than before, especically in winter time, icy road makes lots of accidents, You may buy a 4 wheel drive car instead an economic one. But one thing in winter is good, cheap skiing and the ski place is close to city, probably this is most popular sports you can do in winter in this city.

Gas, electricity, water and other utilities fee are the same as in Edmonton, probably the gas fee is a little bit higher in winter, about $200 to 300 a month for a single detached house. F' e+ @( [+ d, k5 A4 B/ n
# \6 Q' d+ {) l# G, zHousing price increased a lots from last year, the average price is $620K for a single detached house. This probably is the worst part if you would like to buy a house for living here now...7 u9 t! v+ z7 ]! z
) }1 {) s. c$ Z% H1 N8 w% nGenerally this place is O.K. for living if you have a decent job, I would say most people will stay here for a while no matter he complains a lot like everyone else......all because it is so easy to make money here than anywhere in Canada...... |
