if you saw the yellow light, decide to cross it and before you could finish crossing the intersection and the lights turned red, then yes, that's running the red light. if you are driving at 60km/hr and still unable to complete the crossing before the lights turn red, then you'll have re-assess your visual judgements. typically, lights remain yellow for 4 seconds before turning red. with 4 seconds of time at 60km/hr, you will cover approximately 70m of distance (assuming you did not speed up, which most people will do when they try to race through an intersection before the lights turn red). 70m is approximately 3/4 of a football field, ie a quite a good distance, something your eyes should have been able to assess and tell your feet to stop or go. I wouldn't bother to apeal in your case, you will not win. it's a bit of bad luck with you pulled over by the cops, but it's also a poor assessment on your behalf. |
